The position reports to the Head of Architecture and coordinates closely with the Senior Project Architect, Structural Engineer, Plumbing and Drainage Engineer, Electrical and ELV Engineer, Site Development Engineer, interior team and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC Design and Calculations
Develop complete HVAC designs from concept through construction documentation.
Establish design criteria, indoor and outdoor conditions, operating requirements and applicable standards.
Perform cooling-load, psychrometric, airflow, air-change, space-pressure and equipment-selection calculations.
Assess sensible and latent loads, solar gain, building-envelope performance, occupancy, equipment, ventilation and infiltration.
Compare appropriate systems based on performance, energy consumption, capital cost, operating cost and maintenance requirements.
Air-Conditioning Systems
Design split, multi-split, VRF and VRV systems.
Design centralised and chilled-water systems where required.
Select and schedule indoor and outdoor units, AHUs, FCUs, chillers, pumps, cooling towers and associated equipment.
Determine zoning, diversity, part-load performance and redundancy requirements.
Size refrigerant and chilled-water piping, calculate hydraulic losses and pump duties, and design condensate drainage.
Ventilation, Air Distribution and Humidity Control
Design fresh-air, supply-air, return-air, transfer-air and exhaust-air systems.
Design ventilation for bathrooms, toilets, laundries, service areas, plant rooms and technical spaces.
Size ductwork, calculate fan static pressure and select grilles, diffusers, louvres, dampers and filters.
Develop outdoor-air treatment, dehumidification and pressure-control strategies suitable for Bali’s tropical climate.
Prevent condensation, mould and moisture damage through correct system selection, insulation, vapour control and operation.
Address acoustic, vibration and coastal-corrosion requirements.
Kitchen, Smoke Control and Building Controls
Design or coordinate kitchen extract, make-up air, grease ducts, fan selection and exhaust discharge.
Coordinate kitchen hoods and fire-suppression interfaces with specialist suppliers.
Design or coordinate pressurisation and smoke-extraction systems required by the approved fire strategy.
Coordinate HVAC shutdowns, fire and smoke dampers, emergency power, fire-alarm interfaces and BMS requirements.
Prepare control philosophies, points schedules and sequences of operation.
Coordinate electrical loads, sensors, valves, dampers and equipment interlocks with the relevant engineers.
The appointed fire engineer remains responsible for the overall fire strategy on projects requiring specialist fire engineering.
Documentation and Coordination
Prepare complete HVAC plans, schematics, sections, details, equipment schedules, calculations and specifications.
Prepare plant-room, shaft, louvre, ceiling-space, access and maintenance-clearance requirements.
Coordinate HVAC services with architecture, structure, ceilings, electrical systems, plumbing, fire protection and interiors.
Resolve spatial and technical conflicts before documentation is issued.
Prepare or technically review HVAC BOQs, quantity schedules and tender documentation.
Participate in design reviews and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
Construction and Commissioning Support
Respond to RFIs and resolve HVAC issues during construction.
Review shop drawings, material submissions, equipment selections, substitutions and contractor proposals.
Conduct site inspections and identify work that does not comply with the approved design.
Review pressure testing, flushing, duct-leakage testing, air and water balancing, controls testing and system-performance results.
Review commissioning reports, as-built drawings and operation and maintenance manuals.
Resolve performance, humidity, condensation, noise and comfort problems identified during construction or commissioning.
